Three Women Murdered in Panama

Three women murdered, five attempts in Panama. Suspect detained, authorities support victim families.


This year, three women have been murdered and five attempted homicides have been registered, according to statistics from the Public Ministry. The Public Ministry is awaiting the report from the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences on the cause of death. The alleged perpetrator will face a guarantees judge in the coming hours to decide his fate. The man, whose general data has not been revealed by the authorities in charge of the investigation, is accused of the crime against life and personal integrity in its femicide modality. Through the Comprehensive Care Center of La Chorrera, the institution has activated an interdisciplinary team to offer psychological, social, and legal support to the family, in order to guarantee the protection and well-being of the minors affected by this tragedy. Last Sunday, the funeral of Maritza Tejeira was held in the El Copecito community, leaving three minors orphaned. Maritza Tejeira's ex-partner, whose body was found dead last November 13, was apprehended on Tuesday night in the El Llano district, San Carlos, Panama Oeste province. The apprehension was carried out by the National Police in association with the Homicide and Femicide Prosecutor's Office of the regional Public Ministry.
